Leila, Liina and Lily Luik from Estonia will make history as the first identical triplets to compete against each other in the women’s marathon at the Olympic games.
The 30-year-old blonde, blue-eyed sisters from the southern Estonian university town of Tartu took up serious distance running when they were 24 in 2010. Liina, who started the sisters on the running road, said that long distance running had more appeal to them compared to the highly technical nature of sprinting.
After a couple of years the sisters realised that THEYwere good enough to take part in international competitions and then decided to try for the Olympics, setting up the slogan of “Trio to Rio” to give shape to their goals and dreams of all three competing in the Olympics. How will they do against the stiff competition at the Olympics? Only time will tell.
