Cristiano Ronaldo is the latest celebrity accused in the #MeToo movement. The soccer superstar is alleged to have raped a woman in 2009 while in Las Vegas. The soccer star has denied the allegation. Despite his denial, a lawsuit by the victim says Ronaldo apologized, “stating he was sorry, he was usually a gentleman.” The lawsuit also alleges that Ronaldo told his representatives that “she said ‘no’ and ‘stop’ several times.” The victim, Kathryn Mayorga, signed a settlement and nondisclosure agreement in 2009. She claims she received $375,000 in exchange for her silence. Her lawsuit seeks to void the settlement and agreement.
For his part Cristiano calls the rape accusations ‘fake news’ in a grinning video on Instagram to his 142 million followers. His response was just hours after the former US model accusations gained mainstream publicity.
