Chi-Raq is an upcoming film directed by Spike Lee set in Chicago’s south side. The film is described as a modern day adaptation of the ancient Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes, set against the backdrop of gang violence in Chicago. The film has taken it’s share of criticism though. The title “Chi-Raq” is a name the hardworking people of Chicago are against and don’t won’t their city being compared to war torn Iraq. Violence however is prevalent in the city and hopefully Spike has used this movie as a platform to shed more light on this issue. Spike issued a statement to the negative critism:
A lot of people have opinions about the so-called title of the film, again, who know nothing about the film,” he said at the time. “Wait until the movie comes out. You don’t like it, you don’t like, but wait, see it first.
